Miniseries rescues the history of Brazil

Reality and fiction meet in the epic "A Casa das Sete Mulheres," a miniseries inspired by the Farrapos War. It is a great opportunity for Brazilians to learn a little about Brazil at the time of the empire


For many tourists, Bento Gonçalves and Garibaldi are just two beautiful cities in the Serra Gaúcha. But thanks to the miniseries A Casa das Sete Mulheres, many Brazilians now know that Bento Gonçalves and the couple Giuseppe and Anita Garibaldi were three of the main characters in the Revolução Farroupilha, also known as the War of the Farrapos (a movement that tried to separate Rio Grande do Sul from the rest of the country in the XIX century). At that time, seven women (relatives of Bento Gonçalves) were taken to an isolated place to be protected from the horrors of the war. This true story inspired the gaúcho writer Letícia Wierchowzki to write the novel The House of the Seven Women (A Casa das Sete Mulheres). The Globo television network, in turn, adapted the gaúcho writer's novel for the TV screen. The miniseries started on 7th January and should finish on 4th April.

Anita and Garibaldi: Heroes for two different worlds

Giuseppe Garibaldi was an Italian revolutionary leader who left Europe to join Bento Gonçalves' troops in the fight against the imperial government's troops. When he arrived in Brazil he met Manoela, Bento's niece, and got engaged to her. When the war started, Garibaldi went to fight in Santa Catarina and there he met Anita (Ana Maria Ribeiro da Silva), a young married woman. Anita fell in love with Garibaldi and left her husband to fight in the war by Giuseppe Garibaldi's side. Later they married, and in 1848 both left for Europe to fight for the unification of Italy. Giuseppe and Anita Garibaldi became heroes in Brazil and in Italy.
