It’s rock’s birthday!
In 1954 a musical style appeared in the USA which revolutionized music and influenced young people all over the world
 Rock is having a birthday: 56 years young. The magazine Rolling Stone says that 5th July 1954 is the official date of the “birth of Rock n’ Roll”. It was on that day that Elvis Presley recorded the song That’s All Right. However, rock had appeared a little earlier, on 12th
(or 13 th) April of that same year, when Bill Haley and The Comets recorded the big hit Rock Around The Clock. Elvis Presley became known as the “King of rock”, but he did not create this musical style. Musically speaking, rock’s “paternity” could be attributed to at least two musicians: Bill Haley and Little Richard. Despite having appeared in the USA, it was in England where the greatest bands of all time appeared: The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd. With the passing of time, rock has taken on different styles, such as punk, heavy metal and progressive rock, amongst others.
Brazilian rockers
At the end of the ’60s, Brazilian rock was given an important boost with the appearance of a movement called Tropicália. Names such as Caetano Veloso, Gilberto Gil and Os Mutantes, amongst others, mixed MPB and rock with a lot of creativity. But it was at the beginning of the ’80s that Brazilian rock experienced its richest phase. It was at that time that the greatest bands in the history of Brazilian rock appeared, such as Legião Urbana, Paralamas do Sucesso, Titãs, Capital Inicial, Ira!, RPM and many more. Many of these bands are successful up to today.
